OVERVIEW

Talent Garden, DCU Alpha

Talent Garden is Europe’s largest co-working and digital innovation network and its European Base at the DCU Alpha campus is the latest addition to the Glasnevin digital innovation campus once home to the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). In association with COMMA, MOLA were Integrated Design Team lead on this project which was completed as part of phase 1 of the DCU Capital Development Program (2015-2021).

The 3188 sqm project required the adaptive re-use and conversion of the 3 storey Hooper & Mayne designed NSAI testing laboratory as a flexible co-working space. It provides workspaces for 350 users which include start-ups, freelancers, SMEs and corporates. The Workspaces are complemented by an Innovation School, an events space, Café and a variety of meeting spaces. The spaces benefit from generous floor to ceiling heights and large expanses of perimeter glazing a requirement of the buildings prior function as a testing laboratory. The external façade of the building was also refreshed with a distinctive dark colour and the adjoining redundant standalone water tower re-imaged as a public art ‘marker’ element piece by artist collective Subset.
