OVERVIEW

Stokes Building, Dublin City University

MOLA Architecture led a single point design team to deliver phase 1 of the DCU Capital Development Program (2015-2021). Located on the DCU Glasnevin Campus, the Stokes Building extension was the first building project delivered concurrently under this appointment. The works comprised a 4,100sqm four storey extension to the existing science and engineering building atop a previously constructed basement podium structure. This project responded directly to University’s acute need to provide a variety of different types of teaching spaces and to satisfy timetabling requirements associated with increased student numbers whilst maintaining business as usual operations in a live building.

The Stokes Building extension at peak capacity provides accommodation for up to 1100 users, in 2 no. double stacked tiered auditorium of 256 persons respectively as well as flat floor teaching spaces and academic offices. The building is comprehensively interlinked with the existing Stokes Building on all levels but also functions independently. A 4 storey glazed entrance atrium which addresses the adjoining business school quadrangle providing a new frontage to the Stokes Building complex.
