OVERVIEW

Clonliffe College Competition Bid Proposal

MOLA Architecture was part of a consortium competition bid for the redevelopment of this landmark site on Clonliffe College lands in Dublin 3. Unfortunately our bid was unsuccessful, which was won by the Hines consortium.

The sensitive site, which lies to the North of the city centre, required an approach that responded to the surrounding context, provided a commercially viable development model and remained sympathetic to the existing college buildings, church and landscape.

Legacy issues and community values of the site were underpinning principles of the proposal which aimed to create a neighbourhood that provided exemplar design, and of high quality living accommodation to a diversity of residents, of varying income and age grouping, ensuring a collaborative communal culture, reinforced by the connectivity of shared spaces and facilities.

The unique setting and facilities aimed to welcome neighbours and visitors who would enjoy its landscape, celebrate the site’s biodiversity and historic associations with farming and horticulture.

Clonliffe, as it was imagined, would celebrate and cherish the memories and conserved fabric of its history, while integrating itself gracefully, elegantly, and positively into the social and physical fabric of north Dublin.
